3 Facts You May Not Know About Invisalign

A great smile is a dream for just about everyone, and while a few people are born that way, most people need help in getting their teeth in shape to give them that perfect smile. Thankfully, there are several options that can straighten your teeth over time.

Traditional braces are metal brackets glued to your teeth and connected by wires. They straighten your teeth very well, but they can be uncomfortable, they’re not attractive, and they can take years to get good results.

Invisalign®, on the other hand, is a quick and easy option to straighten your teeth more discreetly, with less notice and discomfort.

What is the Invisalign system?

Invisalign is a system to straighten your teeth with a series of clear retainers that fit over your teeth. As you change the retainers over time, they gently shift your teeth into a more ideal position. So far, about 7.5 million people have used the Invisalign system to straighten their teeth, which means their cutting edge technology is now proven by millions.

Dr. Benjamin Crowley of Brightwork Family Dentistry is an Invisalign expert who will take the time to understand your smile goals and develop a treatment plan to fit your needs. He can fully explain the Invisalign treatment to you and answer your questions, to help you decide if it’s right for you.

What issues can Invisalign treat?

Invisalign can be used to treat several dental problems, including:

  • Gaps in your teeth

  • Underbite

  • Overbite

  • Crowded teeth

  • Crossbite

If you don’t have any of these issues, but just want straighter teeth to give you a more beautiful smile, Invisalign can deliver results for you too!

3 Invisalign facts you might not know

Invisalign is cutting-edge

Once you have explained your dental goals, Dr. Crowley uses computer software to map out your treatment plan. The computer shows exactly which teeth need to be realigned, and his team will then design a series of aligners that will be used to accomplish your treatment plan.

We use the latest technology to custom-make the trays we use to straighten your teeth. Before you begin your treatment, Dr. Crowley uses a special 3D scanner to take an image of your teeth. We then use a 3D printer to print your unique aligners onto a SmartTrack® material based on that image.

Invisalign is easy and comfortable

Because your trays are custom-made for your mouth, you can count on them being comfortable. The Invisalign trays are made out of a thin, clear, flexible plastic that won’t irritate or cut your lips or gums, unlike the bulky metal braces that have been the standard in the past.

Also unlike braces, you won’t have any restrictions on what you can eat and drink. In fact, while you should wear your aligners consistently, you can actually take them out of your mouth for a couple hours every day. Most people do this when they eat and drink, as well as when it’s time to brush and floss your teeth. You can also remove your aligners for special occasions where you don’t want to think about them.

Invisalign gets results quickly

Dr. Crowley will send you home with your first and second aligners. When you complete the time frame for the first aligner, you’ll shift right to the second, which means you won’t have to come back into the office often.

The exact length of Invisalign treatment plans will vary from person to person, but many people can complete their Invisalign treatment in just 12 months! This means the smile you’ve always wanted can be yours sooner than you think.
