Dr. Karen S. McAndrew DMD, MS
Dr. Karen McAndrew attended the University of Pennsylvania where she received her D.M.D. degree and graduated with OKU honors. Upon completion of her dental degree, her interest in prosthodontics led her to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she completed her specialty training and earned her specialty certification and Master of Science degree in Prosthodontics.
She maintains a private practice in Williamsburg and Richmond, Virginia, limiting her practice to prosthodontics, dental implants, and maxillofacial prosthetics, focusing on her passion for dental implants, Oral/Esthetic reconstruction, oral cancer and syndromic care, geriatric oral care, dentures and partial dentures, crowns, and veneers.
Year after year, Dr. McAndrew’s expertise has been honored with recognition of many awards for Top Prosthodontist, Top Cosmetic Dentist, Top Dentist, Best Bedside Manner.
Her expertise lies in the many wonderful patients she has treated over the years. Focusing her practice on full mouth and esthetic reconstruction through restoration of dental implants, crowns, veneers, dentures and partial dentures.
Dr. McAndrew currently serves as a member of the editorial review board for the Journal of Prosthodontics, the Journal of the Virginia Dental Association, and the Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal. She served as a past president of the Virginia section of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP) and served as a Board member for the Virginia section of the ACP. She served on the ACP and P&G Geriatric Dental Task Force and had held a position in the ACP Private Practice Committee.
Dr. McAndrew has contributed to several scientific journals, coauthored a textbook chapter, and lectures nationally on dental implants. Currently, she is the prosthodontist for the Bon Secours Cleft and Craniofacial Team at St Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, and serves on the Bon Secours faculty and teaches in the Pediatric Dental Residency Program.
Dr. McAndrew’s passion for educating the next generation of dentists follows that she served on the faculty at VCU School of Dentistry in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the department of Periodontics. She recently held a full-time position at VCU School of Dentistry in the Division of Prosthodontics as an Associate Professor and Director of Implant Dentistry. She has twice been named as the Part Time faculty of the year and recognized as top Prosthodontist faculty by the national ADEA organization.
She founded the Virginia Center for Prosthodontics (practice limited to prosthodontics, dental implants, and maxillofacial prosthetics), and co-founded the Richardson - McAndrew SPEAR study Club, Richmond Interdisciplinary Study Club (RIDS) as well as The Implant Forum of Virginia.
She sits on the Board for Northeast Richmond Dental society (NERDS) and holds memberships in multiple dental organizations: ADA, VDA, ACP, AO, Southeast Academy of Prosthodontists (SEAP) and the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association (ACPA), and maintains memberships in the honored International College of Dentists (ICD) and Pierre Fauchard Academy. She currently leads the Richmond Interdisciplinary study club (RIDS)
Since 1997 she has held positions on the Richmond Dental Society as a Board member and served on various committees. Dr. McAndrew also holds membership in the ADA/VDA/RDS, serves on various committees, and conducted responsibilities as a delegate to the VDA. Currently, she also holds a position in the Peninsula Dental Society as she serves on the Council on Membership, Marketing, and Communications.
Her passion for philanthropy led her to multiple Mission of Mercy (MOM) projects and care for patients through the Donated Dental Services program. She founded the “Denture Dream Team” for the MOM project in Wise County, Virginia and was awarded the VDA presidential citation for her works.
Dr. McAndrew is a military mom who loves spending her free time with her wonderful husband and extraordinary son. She is an avid bee keeper and enjoys gardening, raising orchids, and traveling whenever she can to warm areas with the sand in her toes.
